Screenshots can be captured on a Mac either for the entire screen, a window, or a selected portion.
To take a screenshot of the entire screen, press and hold Shift, Command and 3 keys together.
After capturing, a thumbnail appears in the corner of the screen, allowing users to edit the screenshot or wait for it to save on the desktop.
For capturing a portion of the screen, users need to press and hold Shift, Command, and 4 keys together.
Drag the crosshair to select the desired area, and pressing the Space bar allows moving the selection.
To cancel the screenshot, users can press the Escape key.
To capture a window or menu, open the target window or menu and press Shift, Command, 4, and Space bar keys together.
Click on the window or menu to capture it, and holding the Option key while clicking excludes the window's shadow from the screenshot.
By default, screenshots are saved on the desktop with the name "Screen Shot [date] at [time].png," but users can change the location from the Options menu or drag the thumbnail to a specific folder or document.
