A spectacular opening ceremony held alongside the Seine River marked the official start of the Paris 2024 Olympics. However, Team USA had one more surprise in store: the legendary Beyoncé arrived to kick off the Summer Games in style.
A Star-Studded Introduction
Millions of people watched NBCUniversal’s primetime coverage of the Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony on Friday, July 26. Beyoncé, the 32-time Grammy winner, was remixing her song “YA YA” off the Cowboy Carter album when she appeared. But she wasn’t by herself this time. Some of the top athletes representing the United States were gathered around her.
The Athletes Respond
The women’s gymnastics team members, Jade Carey, Sunisa “Suni” Lee, Simone Biles, Jordan Chiles, and Hezly Rivera, joyfully responded as Beyoncé danced to the song. Clad in bodysuits the color navy, the professional athletes were prepared for battle. And so did the men’s gymnastics team, which consisted of Asher Hong, Brody Malone, Paul Juda, Fred Richard, and Stephen Nedoroscik.
America, Get a Look!
Beyoncé’s statement, “Get a look at America, y’all,” was quite clear. She honored the aspirations, successes, and stars that embody the United States. Beyoncé’s delight and pride were visible when additional players, some of whom were waving the American flag, flashed across the screen. She was eager to watch what Team USA will accomplish in the ensuing sixteen days.
A Vision to Behold
A video montage featuring Olympic qualifiers performing in a variety of sports was shown before the clip concluded. These athletes’ spot at the Paris Games was a result of their perseverance and hard work. Beyoncé’s introduction was a celebration of the best aspects of who we are, not just a show.
