Earlier this year, it was revealed by Lil Wayne that his hit-producing album Tha Carter III couldn’t be identified by him in a lineup. He conveyed to Rolling Stone, “I hold the belief that [God] gifted me with this incredible mind, yet refrained from granting [me] an exceptional memory to recollect this incredible material.”
However, one skill Wayne does retain is his ability to play the guitar. Over a decade ago, Weezy took up the guitar, initially incorporating it as a novelty during his live performances and later transitioning to rock for his 2010 album Rebirth. Presently, he’s making a guitar solo appearance for his fellow Louisianan Jon Batiste in the track “Uneasy,” from Batiste’s new album, World Music Radio.
This solo lasts for a mere 30 seconds, situated within a John Legend-esque interlude towards the song’s conclusion. Even so, it’s likely that Wayne will remember this solo better than the verse he contributed to the track.
Interestingly, Lil Wayne’s guitar playing might not be the most unpredictable element on WMR, which marks Batiste’s first album since his Grammy-honored We Are.
The album features an Afrobeats collaboration with Fireboy DML, a saxophone solo by Kenny G, and a reunion with Lana Del Rey following their earlier joint work on Del Rey’s Ocean Blvd.
