Ariana Grande has officially closed the chapter on her time as a coach on The Voice. The pop sensation, who joined the popular singing competition for its 21st season in 2021, recently confirmed that she won’t be returning to the show. Her reason? The deep emotional connections she formed with the contestants made it too hard for her to continue.
Speaking on the Las Culturistas podcast with Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers, Ariana shared, “I got so emotionally attached to everyone. That’s my problem.” Her nurturing personality led her to invest heavily in her team members, making it tough to navigate the emotional toll of the competition.
Staying Connected with Her Team
Despite leaving the show, Ariana has tried her best to stay connected with her former team members, including Bella DeNapoli, David Vogel, and Raquel Trinidad. While her busy schedule has made frequent communication difficult, Ariana admitted she still keeps up with their lives through Instagram.
“I love meeting people, and I felt so invested,” she said, adding that she enjoys seeing their updates online. Ariana expressed joy at seeing Bella welcome a baby and following Sasha Allen’s solo music career. “I like their posts, I see their things, I see what they’re up to,” she added, showing how much she still cares for her contestants.
Fond Memories of the Iconic Red Chair
One aspect of The Voice Ariana truly enjoyed was the iconic red chair, calling it a “good perk.” The act of spinning around in excitement after choosing a contestant was a highlight of her time on the show. “It was so fun,” she said, laughing about the experience.
A Tough Role to Fill
When Ariana joined the show, she was paired with seasoned coaches Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson, and John Legend. Although she initially thought the job would be easy, Ariana quickly realized it was more challenging than expected. “You watch it on TV and think, ‘OK, I’m going to get in there, and it’s going to be easy,’” she admitted. “But it’s so hard. [The other coaches] are so seasoned and great at it.”
Still, Ariana found her time on The Voice incredibly rewarding. She appreciated the opportunity to work alongside some of the best in the industry, saying, “Being able to work with Kelly and John and Blake—it’s been so informative, and I’ve learned so much.”
Ariana’s Future Plans
While Ariana Grande has moved on from The Voice, she remains busier than ever. From her role in the upcoming Wicked movies to her music career, she continues to captivate fans with her versatility and talent. Although she won’t be spinning in the red chair again, her time on The Voice left a lasting impact on both her and the contestants she mentored.
