Leicester City has officially announced the departure of manager Steve Cooper following a disappointing start to the Premier League season. Cooper, 44, joined the club during the summer but leaves with the team in 16th place after 12 matches.
During his tenure, Cooper guided Leicester to the Carabao Cup round of 16, where they were eliminated by Manchester United. His final game in charge was a narrow 2-1 loss to Chelsea, currently managed by his predecessor, Enzo Maresca.
In an official statement, Leicester City said:
“Leicester City has parted company with Steve Cooper, who leaves his position as first team manager with immediate effect. Assistant manager Alan Tate and first team coach and analyst Steve Rands have also left the club. We thank Steve, Alan, and Steve for their contributions and wish them all the best for the future.”
Until a new manager is appointed, first team coach Ben Dawson, along with Danny Alcock and Andy Hughes, will oversee training sessions.
Leicester’s struggles this season have been evident. Despite a promising start with a 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur, the team failed to secure a victory in their first six league matches. While back-to-back wins against Bournemouth and Southampton briefly eased pressure, three losses in their last four games proved to be the tipping point for Cooper’s tenure.
The club’s latest setback was a hard-fought loss to Chelsea, with Jordan Ayew’s stoppage-time penalty sparking hope for a draw. However, the defeat sealed Cooper’s fate.

Leicester will look to regroup as they prepare for their next Premier League clash against Brentford on Saturday.
Cooper’s dismissal marks the second managerial change in the league this season, following Manchester United’s decision to part ways with Erik ten Hag last month.
